We are honored when you choose the Childbirth Center at Progress West Hospital to provide you with care before, during and after the birth of your child. Our obstetrical services are delivered by an exceptional team of caregivers who are focused on your needs. 

We created our comfortable, modern Childbirth Center with you and your family in mind. Our large birthing suites have a cozy, intimate atmosphere created to meet the entire spectrum of birthing needs, from labor and delivery to recovery and postpartum, with accommodations for an overnight guest. We support each mother’s choice for natural or anesthesia-assisted childbirth, with a nearby operating room in the event of a Cesarean section.

Childbirth Center at Progress West Hospital: Our Expertise 

  • Nurses with an average of 15 years experience in labor and delivery  
  • Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU) staffed by St. Louis Children's Hospital neonatologists and newborn specialists for babies born with special medical needs
  • In-house anesthesiologists, obstetricians and St. Louis Children's Hospital pediatricians on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 
  • Diabetes experts for women who develop gestational diabetes during pregnancy,  

Tour the Facility 

We encourage expectant mothers and their families to come visit our Childbirth Center and tour the facility. Tours last about 45 minutes and are available both during the week and on weekends.  Dates and time vary so, check out our schedule and reserve a spot for yourself and up to two guests.

Childbirth Classes
The childbirth classes we offer at Progress West Hospital are designed to introduce expectant parents to a variety of important discussions, ranging from pregnancy to the early days at home with your new baby. The will help you understand the emotional and physical changes to expect during pregnancy, labor and birth. The classes also provide helpful information to the mother’s support person about breathing, relaxation techniques, hospital procedures, cesarean birth, medications and infant care. A tour of the Birthing Center is included. 

Four-Week Childbirth Class
Time: 7-9:30 p.m.
Day: One day a week for four weeks
Cost: $75 per couple

Childbirth Classes Online
If you are unable to attend our childbirth classes in person, we offer an online option as well. This eight-chapter program is an interactive, web-based class that uses videos, personal birth stories, animations, activities and games to teach all the essential information you’ll need to prepare for birth. Topics include: pregnancy, labor, comfort techniques, medical procedures, cesarean births, newborns and postpartum.

Introduction to Breastfeeding
Our lactation experts created this class to prepare moms-to-be and new moms for the breastfeeding experience. With tips and techniques for success, you can have all your questions answered by a lactation specialist. Family members are welcome and encouraged to attend.

CPR for Family & Friends
Designed for parents, grandparents, child care providers and teenagers who babysit (ages 10-15 must be accompanied by an adult), this class offers hands-on practice in infant, child and adult CPR, as well as first aid for choking. This non-certification course is taught by St. Louis Children’s Hospital instructors who have been trained by the American Heart Association.
