Maternity and Obstetrics

The birth of your baby is one of the most joyous occasions you'll experience. We are honored when you choose Progress West Hospital to provide you with care before, during and after the birth of your child. 

Expectant parents can enjoy a comfortable and relaxing birthing experience with us, unlike any other facility in St. Charles County. Our BJC physicians are some of the best in the region, with a team that includes experienced obstetricians and nurses who have been specially trained in birthing care. 

In case of an emergency, the St. Louis Children's Hospital neonatologists and newborn specialists are just a phone call away. We also have in-house anesthesiologists, obstetricians and St. Louis Children's Hospital pediatricians on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week. 

Tour the Facility 

We encourage expectant mothers and their families to come visit our Birthing Center and tour the facility. Tours are held on the first Wednesday of every month from 8 to 9 p.m. as well as the second and fourth Saturday of every month from 10 to 11 a.m. Call to reserve a spot for yourself and up to two guests. We offer a variety of classes that provide valuable information to help make your experience with your new baby the very best it can be.

Childbirth Classes

Our childbirth classes at Progress West Hospital are designed to introduce expectant parents to a variety of important discussions, ranging from pregnancy to the early days at home with your new baby. Classes will help you to understand the emotional and physical changes of pregnancy, labor, birth, the role of the support person, breathing, relaxation techniques, hospital procedures, cesarean birth, medications and infant care. A tour of the Birthing Center is included. We offer two options for classes:

Four-Week Childbirth Class
Time: 7-9:30 p.m.
Day: One day a week for four weeks
Cost: $75 per couple

Day: Saturday

Childbirth Classes Online

If you are unable to attend our childbirth classes in person, we offer an option that lets you take classes online. This eight-chapter program is an interactive, web-based class that uses videos, personal birth stories, animations, activities and games to teach all the essential information you’ll need to prepare for birth. Topics include: pregnancy, labor, comfort techniques, medical procedures, cesarean births, newborns and postpartum.

Introduction to Breastfeeding

Our lactation experts created this class to prepare moms-to-be and new moms for the breastfeeding experience. With tips and techniques for success, join us and have all your questions answered by a lactation specialist. Dads are welcome and encouraged to attend.

CPR for Family & Friends

Designed for parents, grandparents, child care providers and teenagers who babysit (ages 10-15 must be accompanied by an adult), this class offers hands-on practice in infant, child and adult CPR, as well as first aid for choking. This non-certification course is taught by St. Louis Children’s Hospital instructors who have been trained by the American Heart Association.
