Working in coordination with Barnes-Jewish Hospital, patients have access to the latest technology and expertise in a comfortable, community setting.
Residents of St. Charles County have access to the expertise of Washington University physicians and Barnes-Jewish Hospital for immediate stroke care. Progress West and Barnes-Jewish St. Peters Hospitals participate as full partners in an accredited stroke network that speeds the process to assess and treat stroke patients in the community.
Both Barnes-Jewish St. Peters and Progress West Hospitals have proven their ability to provide effective, timely care that can significantly improve outcomes for stroke patients. After undergoing on-site evaluations and demonstrating compliance with nationally developed standards for stroke care, the hospitals have earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ for certification as Primary Stroke Centers. This certification is based on recommendations for primary stroke centers published by the Brain Attack Coalition and the American Stroke Association’s statements and guidelines for stroke care.
At Progress West Hospital, patients can receive immediate stroke consultations with neurologists and neurosurgeons. They will determine the appropriate location for care, focusing on returning the patient to the community hospital setting as quickly as possible. Patients have access to the state-of-art telemedicine, which allows Washington University neurologists to interact with patients and provide real-time consultation with Progress West emergency physicians 24/7.
