COVID-19 Information

24/7 STEMI

For patients suffering from a certain kind of heart attack called a STEMI, or ST elevation myocardial infarction, our staff at Progress West Hospital can play a lifesaving role in their treatment.

STEMI is a heart attack that occurs when the patient has a blocked blood vessel, and swift treatment is essential to save as much heart muscle as possible. When STEMI patients arrive at our emergency room, our highly trained staff takes them to our state-of-the-art cardiac catheterization lab for an interventional cardiac catheterization, which may include the placement of a stent to open blocked arteries.

Know the Signs

While the most common sign of a heart attack is chest pain or chest discomfort, many people, especially women, may experience other symptoms such as:

  • Discomfort in the arms, back, neck or abdomen
  • Dizziness
  • Excessive fatigue
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Shortness of breath

If you believe you or a loved one could be suffering a heart attack, call 911 immediately.
